Software Engineer in Test (Automation)

at Appian in Reston, VA   —   Mar 31, 2014   |
Overview
Appian is building a ground-breaking web-based application that will change the way the world thinks about delivering applications and services on the web. With hundreds of customers globally, and millions of deployed seats, we sell one of the world's most actively used enterprise web applications. Our application is beautiful, elegant, and powerful: with our technology, delivered purely through a web interface, we can implement business applications faster than any technology platform you've ever seen.

We are looking for quality engineers specializing in the design and implementation of automated testing strategies. We have a preference for engineers who've shipped real code to real customers in other enterprise software environments, but we are willing to mentor and train new engineers as well.

Contribute to major Quality Engineering automation efforts to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability of tests
Build, integrate and update cutting edge automation frameworks in order to optimize the entire Quality Engineering effort
Set standards and educate the team on how to optimally utilize the frameworks to build automated tests
Build and improve reports to effectively show status and rapidly identify issues
Report product defects in the tracking system as well as reports to inform all involved parties about the quality of a feature
Spend up to 10% of your time on R&D projects of your choosing ("indie time")
Experience
1+ years experience in Software Quality Engineering and automation
Extreme attention to detail
Excellent spoken and written communication
Proficient in testing of J2EE applications
Proficient with existing automated testing frameworks (e.g. Junit, Cactus, Jmeter, Selenium, HTMLUnit)
Knowledge of Linux, Solaris, Windows, as well as application servers (i.e. Tomcat/Jboss, WebSphere, Weblogic)
Education
Bachelors in Computer Science or related discipline
Compensation
competitive salary based upon depth of experience
