Overview
ScienceLogic is seeking a web application developer who has a passion for cutting-edge technology and a knack for mentoring others; someone to build extremely interactive visualizations on top of the wealth of information collected by our product and help move key aspects of our application off of the server and in to the browser.
Responsibilities
Visualization: We have a framework for drag-and-drop, elastic dashboards built primarily with JavaScript and supported by a LAMP (PHP 5.3) framework that is industry-leading on a number of fronts. This position involves improving that framework and bringing it to other areas of the product well as mentoring others on how to use it.
Visualization Again: There is an unending hunger from our customers (and ourselves, since we use our product in-house) for more and better 'widgets' for our dashboards. More graph types, more gauges, more filter options, more live/dynamic interactivity, etc. The opportunity to innovate and influence in the form of providing new visualization options on existing datasets is nearly limitless.
Mentoring and Leadership: eager to share knowledge on best practices for whatever cutting edge HTML5 / CSS3 / js functionality has been introduced so that we can produce consistent, high-quality results as a team.
Experience
Loves HTML/JavaScript: This candidate understands that HTML5 isn't just the canvas tag or drop shadows. This is someone who is really excited about things like Intel's parallel JS work, or 3D transforms in CSS and has ideas on how to introduce new web technologies without completely abandoning IE users. PHP and python are both plusses too, but so long as this individual has 8+ years of development experience in the area of mission-critical web applications, the specific languages they’ve used are less important.
Is knowledgeable and ambitious: we have fantastic momentum and growth, and we need someone who enjoys a healthy debate about how we build our product, is enthusiastic about change and is excited by the prospect of defining and carving out ownership of both product and process.
Skills
We're geeks who actually enjoy our product enough to spend free time developing plug-ins for it (cube foot traffic sensors, Minecraft server monitors, etc). We love open source and leverage Linux, Python, PHP, MySQL, js/jQuery, and numerous open standards. We’ve given code back to the Open Source community (NetSNMP and PHP include fixes from us). With a surprisingly small team of top-notch engineers, we’ve accomplished some amazing feats, but we’re growing fast and want to add more people to the ranks who are eager to dive in, carve out some ownership, and build something great.
