DevOps / Operations Engineer

The person who fills this role will own Kwarter DevOps and work as a primary member of our engineering group. The goal of the Kwarter engineering group is simple: to design and build high-performance systems to support interactive mobile gaming at the scale of national broadcast television audiences.
Responsibilities
Own the platform operations to handle the scale of broadcast television and interactive gaming
Own everything from production deployments, networking, ops automation, monitoring, performance tuning/testing, penetration testing.
Work closely with developers to build high performance, highly-available systems
Design and architect systems which will be used by millions of people
Analyze and strengthen existing infrastructure to minimize downtime and response times
Participate in on-call rotation for system maintenance
Experience
A working knowledge of Agile Development practices (SCRUM, TDD)
Expert level knowledge of Linux (Ubuntu / Amazon linux) and Mac OSX
Experience with Amazon Web Services (EC2, EBS, ELB, RDS, SQS, AutoScaling, Security Groups, Availability Zones, etc)
Understanding of low level networking and system performance (memory, swap, disk i/o, network i/o, etc)
Experience with OpsCode Chef (or Puppet)
Understanding operations automation + deployment automation at scale (Fabric)
Experience with shell scripting with Bash, Zsh, Python, Ruby
Understanding of security on Linux/AWS (selinux, denyhosts, ssh, iptables/ufw)
Desired:
Experience with production deployments of Nginx, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, Memcache, RabbitMQ
Experience with Graphite + Statsd + NewRelic
Understanding of performance/load testing + security penetration testing
Big data experience with Hadoop + Pig
Experience with continuous integration using Jenkins
Write maintainable code with extensive unit + functional test coverage
Experience working with Git + GitHub (ideally you have contributed to open source projects)
